Payroll employment fell by 23,000 in July on a preliminary basis. Average hourly earnings rose by $0.02, also preliminary. The final-demand Producer Price Index was unchanged in July, seasonally adjusted.
The Employment Cost Index for compensation of all civilian workers increased 0.9% in the second quarter of 2026, seasonally adjusted. Nonfarm business productivity rose at a 1.4% annual rate from the previous quarter.
Import prices declined 0.4% in July and export prices declined 1.3%. Both monthly price measures were not seasonally adjusted.
